JEd 0.93b Developer Demo is now live.
This started as an idea for a modern native Amiga development environment and gradually turned into a much larger exercise in editor architecture, build tooling, SDK integration, process supervision, authorization, and real-hardware validation.
The current Developer Demo is focused on AmigaOS 4.1 PPC and has been validated on my AmigaOne X5000.
What is working in the application today includes:
• Native MUI editor
• File open/save/new and dirty-state handling
• Mouse caret placement and selection
• Viewport, scrolling, resize, and iconify/restore behavior
• Project/workspace foundations
• Profile-driven GCC compilation
• Controlled Compile
• Native process execution
• Explicit compile authorization
• Artifact verification
• Fail-closed handling when a compiler exits successfully but fails to produce the requested output
That last one ended up being a particularly important design lesson: exit code 0 does not necessarily mean the requested work was actually completed.
The repository also contains validated architecture work for the larger Jeeves / Babel / Igor model:
Jeeves thinks.
Babel checks.
Igor does.
That architecture is intentionally ahead of the current interactive application surface and will be integrated further in later work.
This is not JEd 1.0.
0.93b is a deliberate Developer Demo release: a stable checkpoint of what is working now, with the broader architecture and roadmap available for anyone interested in where the project is going.
I’m freezing implementation here for the moment so I can move on to some other Amiga work, but JEd will absolutely continue.
The repository is now public:

I’ll also be demonstrating JEd at AmiWest.
It has been a lot of fun building this thing from scratch — including more than a few adventures involving MUI, stack frames, GCC, and hardware that occasionally had very strong opinions of its own. 😄
